The old adage "Red skies in the morning, sailors take warning; Red skies at night, sailor's delight" is not ture in this case. This was the sky behind our house in the evening before the devastating Hurricane Ike. It eventually turned purple and deep blue with the red and pink hues remaining closer to the horizon.
This blog is dedicated to the art and joy of skywatching. For more skywatchers, please visit Skywatch Friday.

Blue Ridge Mountains, Friday, November 28th
Only another human being who loves to look at the sky would understand why I would take a salvo of shots of clouds. In one day, I took over three hundred photographs of the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains skies. The above photograph was taken at 11:00 o'clock in the morning with the blinding sun. I saw another skywatcher standing in the middle of a bridge taking a photograph of the same sun and clouds. I wondered whether he was a Friday Skywatcher. I used center-weight metering and a UV filter. All the photographs were taken in a moving vehicle. I had a more important mission that Friday - shopping in Asheville, North Carolina.
Why don't you join? It will give you a new outlook.
